Why not take a step back in time and immerse yourself in Maldon’s remarkable heritage by visiting some of the fascinating museums and historical sites that Maldon has to offer such as Dr Plumes library with its original 17th century book collection or All Saints, an 11th century church that houses the infamous Washington Window in memory of George Washington’s great grandfather Rev. Laurence Washington who is believed to be buried there. Take a trip to Northey Island the first ever recorded battlefield site where the famous Battle of Maldon took place or visit the 15th century Moot Hall and observe the magnificent views of Maldon from its rooftop.

Whilst adults can enjoy a peaceful walk along the riverside, take a relaxing boat trip or enjoy a leisurely drink or two at The Jolly Sailor or The Queens Head quayside pubs watching the Thames sailing barges glide down the River Blackwater.

...Maldon’s quaint town centre has many unique shops and boutiques such as can be found in the historic Kings Head Centre, where you can pick up souvenirs, clothing, gifts and more and a visit to one of Maldon’s traditional shops is a must where you can sample some of the delicious fresh local produce. The Maldon CAMRA Beer Festival is held annually usually around the end of April in Maldon Town Hall. You will find over 60 real ales and ciders, hot and cold food available at all sessions and entrance is free. Other beer festivals are held throughout the year by other local pubs and venues.

Maldon Festival of Arts: The Maldon Festival of Arts is held at the start of the summer to celebrate the talent of local and international artists. Shakespeare in the Park: In the summers months of June or July each year as part of the Festival of Arts, local drama club mac Theatre stage an open-air performance of a Shakespeare play in the Promenade Park’s amphitheatre. For more information visit www.mactheatre.co.uk

Maldon Carnival: Maldon’s summer carnival is held during the month of August and has been a popular event in the town for over 100 years. The weeklong event sees various events being held throughout the town during the week with a Grand Procession held on Saturday where spectators line the streets to watch a parade of floats, majorettes and marching bands raising money for local charities. Maldon Regatta: The town’s main sailing event is held each year during the month of September. The Maldon regatta sees over 50 classes of boats compete in a race from Mersea Island to Maldon Hythe Quay. Spectators are also treated to a variety of on-land entertainment including a duck race, crabbing competitions, live music and stalls selling gifts and crafts.

Maldon Mud Race:The Maldon Mud Race is a sponsored event held around Easter, which sees competitors race across 400 metres of River Blackwater at low tide to raise money for chosen charities, as well as charities selected by Maldon Mud Race Ltd, the event organisers. The Mud Race is an international event and sees people gather from all over the world and previous events have had competitors come from Finland, Germany, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
